Archfiend Eater

So now we get the Aussa version of Inari Fire. I say it like that because it looks a bit different from FP-Archfiend Marmot, just like how Inari Fire looked different from FP-Fox Fire. Also it and Inari Fire have many similarities: their ATK/DEF, Level, and almost all of their effects... with the exception that in order for Archfiend Eater to be special summoned from the graveyard, it has to "eat" one of your monsters (although it doesn't have to be destroyed by a card effect to do so unlike Inari Fire). I can see this being teched in a few decks because of this (Archfiends, T.G.s, Crystal Beasts, anything else that benefits from destroying your own monsters).

Also, kinda looks like Archfiend Eater's horn is blood-stained. Maybe that's just the grainy quality of the pic, but it certainly gives the creature an interesting background to think about now.

I would love a retrained Gagagigo :3

On other note, that card could work well with Fire Avatar, just imagine the Garudanix spam.....

Lol well don't forget that Gagagigo was created before the Charmers were even conceived. Normal monsters were the "cool" thing back then, after all.

Fact: both this card and Inari Fire are illustrated by Akina Fujiwara.

Another fact, though a bit gimmicky, this card actually can combo with Inari Fire. Destroy Inari Fire and Special Summon this from grave. And Inari Fire will get its effect and Special Summoned again during your next Standby Phase.

I wonder if another familiars get released, they'll actually support this combo and allow you to build a deck centered around FP familiars. The common thing between Eater and Inari, is they both can be summoned from grave, and there can only be 1 of them on the field, plus they can be special summoned if you control a Spellcaster.

A random Lv 4 Spellcaster, plus Archfiend Eater and Inari Fire in your hand can allow you to swarm 3 Lv 4 monster, which you can use to Xyz rank 4 monster with 3 materials needed.

Yes. It can't. Actually it's neither tribute nor destroy. It's send to the Graveyard. And sending monster directly to the Graveyard is different than tributing a monster.

Inari Fire can't, but Archfiend Eater can

This might leave Gagagigo as the only normal monster familiar then.

Well, this card would work just fine in my Phoenix deck, Fire Avatar are good, but its lot more fun to play some crazy card as well

I'd rather have new Earth/Fire archetypes that have not-Aussa and not-Hiita monsters in them.

Like we got with Gishki having not-Eria and Gusto having not-Wynn.

Honestly not-Hiita should have really been a Laval monster. Like, REALLY should have been. Bad move Konami for not doing this.
After all the newish Fire archetypes lately like Lavals, Fire Kings, Fire Fists, and Hazy Flames, I'm kinda done with Fire archetypes atm. Plus many people have been waiting for Rekindling to be banned and I'm sure another Fire archetype in the meta would do just that lol

Not-Aussa would be kinda neat though. I don't really see how she could be portrayed as any other way though... she doesn't seem the type to join another clan for the sake of her attribute.


Now that I think about it though... maybe Archfiend Eater and Inari Fire will be all we get as far as not-Familiars. For the sole reason that not-Wynn and not-Eria already have DT presence, and this is Konami's weird way of compensating us for not having not-Hiita and not-Aussa. Hopefully not though.

So, I couldn't really see this that clearly until they updated the official card scans, but I guess if you originally thought this monster's name was such because it was an archfiend, think again. It actually eats the archfiends themselves. Must have freaking teeth of steel lol

Also... I'm sincerely thinking this card would be a nice tech in Shadolls. Almost all are Spellcasters, triggering Eater's SS effect, and Shadolls get their effects when destroyed by a card effect, which Eater can gladly do for you. Maybe, if Shadolls get to be a top tier deck, Marmot can be the first Tier 1 familiar! XD

I feel the need to bump this thread due to how useful this marmot is, especially for Charmers.

- Easy Xyz for any Lv 4 Spellcasters (the most obvious one)
- Triggers Familiars Unleashed/Possession Release and Supply Unit.
- Triggers the other familiars (Inari and Jigobyte), it can also trigger similar cards like Yang Zings.
- Sets up Rank 4 Xyz after revived. It can also swap your useless Rank 4 monster that has no more Xyz material into itself, which allow for future Xyz play
- Can be selected as a target for Diamond Dire Wolf's effect since it's a Beast, and at the same time also triggers  Familiars Unleashed/Possession Release & Supply Unit.

This marmot is just as smart as Aussa since it knows how to play a tactic in Charmer deck.

Now I started to think that when Konami created the early familiars (Inari and this card), they actually already planned to make further Charmer support that works with them (Possession Release), because their effect has synergy with Charmer decks we have now.

Fixed that for you

Marmot can certainly make FP decks really solid, but I don't see it working the same way in a pure Charmer deck. Only thing I see that could benefit pure Charmers is that you can summon FP-Aussa from deck by tributing it and it can come back during the end phase IF you control a third monster. You obviously can't Xyz summon with it if your Charmers themselves are Level 3.

Then again it's not like Familiar-Possessed weren't better cards in the first place though

Don't see why you should correct that, FP is also Charmer. And Archfiend Eater is still really really good in Charmer deck. The usefulness is not limited to only FP based decks, but all kinds of Charmer decks, this including the FP ones.

With Possession Release, Lv 3 Charmers is turned into a tank that can't be destroyed by battle. And there's times when you need to trigger your Possession Release by destroying those Marshmallon Charmers. Charmer deck uses FP too anyway, so Archfiend Eater's usefulness here is still relevant. Assuming "Pure Charmer" you meant here the Charmer deck without any FPs: Why you play completely Pure Charmer anyway, while Possession Release exists. You surely need to mix the Lv 3 Charmers with their FP form to make full use of Possession Release. Pure Charmer deck without their FP form is such a huge waste of Possession Release's potential.
